Compass Housing Board of Directors

Compass Housing is governed by a skills based Board of Directors who are elected members of the company. The Board comprises of up to 12 skilled members.


Paul Johnson - Chairperson
  • Director and Member of Compass Housing
  • Now retired, Paul  has experience as a Chief Executive Officer, Company Secretary, General Manager and IT Manager at various credit unions throughout 1980 to 2007
  • Qualified CPA Accountant
  • Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Member of the Australian Computer Society
  • Other qualifications include a Diploma of Financial Services from The Australian College of Commerce & Management
Greg Budworth - Director/Company Secretary
  • Greg is the CEO and Executive Director of Compass Housing Services Co Ltd
  • Greg is currently a member of PowerHousing Australia, the primary industry representative organisation for the majority of Australia’s largest community housing providers, a director of the Australasian Housing Institute and a member of various other related committees and panels
  • He has a Masters Degree in Business from Newcastle University and other tertiary qualifications in Business Management, Project Management, Workplace Safety and Workplace Training, as well as, other qualifications relevant to former vocations as a minister of religion and police detective
  • He also has previous experience in CEO and senior management roles in for profit human service organisations and is completing a Doctorate in Business Administration

Stephen Barr - Vice-President

 Kwesi Addo
  • Director – Member of Compass Housing since 2005
  • Formal qualifications include: Admission as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of NSW and as a solicitor in the Federal jurisdiction, LLB/Diploma of Legal Practice, Postgraduate Research in Political Science, MA (International Relations, MBA (Hons) (International Business), BA in Philosophy/Business Administration and Undergraduate courses in political science. Currently undertaking a Master of Construction Law program
  • Vast experience working as a Lawyer in various commercial firms across Newcastle and Sydney
  • Previous experience as a Corporate Tax Consultant Author of various legal publications including Community Housing: A Practical Guide to Residential Tenancies & The Consumer, Trader & Tenancy Tribunal, to be published by Compass Housing Co Ltd in 2011

 Barry Martin
  • Barry has experience in human resource management over a cross section of industry including not-for-profit and government organisations in a career spanning 30 plus years
  • Academically, he is in possession of a Diploma of Business Certificate IV in Front Line Management, Certificate IV Workplace Training & Assessment, Personnel Administration Certificate as well as various statement of attainments
  • Barry possesses a comprehensive experience in working with the aboriginal community, working closely with land councils and its relevant elders in the Hunter and Upper Hunter in many matters including recruitment, training and welfare matters

  • Barry has skills in the implementation of change in various organisations involving new technology, marketing campaigns and company growth, always with a view to improve working practices and always with total employee involvement

  • Responsible in the UK for creating a new national social housing and urban regeneration government body called the Homes and Communities Agency with its $10b budget
  • Understanding of housing policy issues and specifically knowledge of innovation in creating new housing models and bringing in new sources of funding for development
