A joint venture from two of Australia’s leading not-for-profit community housing providers has been selected by the NSW Government to provide tailored supportive accommodation to people currently living in three Hunter based residential care centres.
Home4Life is a new disability housing organisation that brings together two of Australia’s most experienced, respected and high performing not-for-profit housing providers; Newcastle based Compass Housing who have deep roots in the Hunter and BlueCHP a company with a sound track record for construction excellence.
The new organisation will provide tailored, supportive accommodation to more than 390 people currently living in outmoded accommodation at the Kanangra, Stockton and Tomaree centres in the Hunter.
Compass Housing Group Managing Director Greg Budworth congratulated the NSW Government for adopting the more supportive housing model.
“We believe people have a right to live in a community, rather than an institution, and to participate fully in that community,” he said.
“With Home4Life, residents transferring from existing Hunter residences will have a guaranteed home for life with services that are tailored specifically to their individual needs.”
The new group homes will be built at locations selected by residents’ families and guardians on land currently owned by the Department of Family and Community Services.
BlueCHP Chief Executive Officer Charles Northcote said Home4Life was committed to making sure tenants and their families or guardians were included in the design process.
“Our philosophy is to only develop or invest in projects we would be happy to live in ourselves so all dwellings built by Home4Life will be designed by expert architects Kennedy and Associates and will be in accordance with the standards for disability housing set by the NSW Government and the NDIS.”
